Call for Abstracts

ABSTRACTS

The SIC 2019 Scientific Committee welcomes the submission of abstracts for presentation during the XVI Congress of the Iberian Society of Cytometry.

From all submitted abstracts, up to 18th february, will be selected the oral presentations.

Abstracts should be written in English, but they can be presented in any of the three languages ​​of the Congress (English, Spanish or Portuguese).

Preferably, abstracts should be submitted before the 18th of February.

Abstracts received after February 18th will not be considered for oral presentation and may only be accepted as a poster, subjected to approval by the Scientific Committee.

Abstract Submission Instructions

  • Abstracts should content original work from the authors.
  • Maximum length of the abstract: 400 words.
  • Maximum length of the abstract title: 20 words.
  • It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract with original unpublished work by the time of submission. Any errors will be reproduced as typed by the author. Abstract titles will be subject to a spell check if the abstract is selected for presentation.

Title
Please make sure to type the title correctly. Do NOT type the full title in capital letters. Do NOT put a full stop after the title, or if the title is composed of 2 sentences, only put a full stop after the first sentence. Do NOT identify your institution in the title.

WRONG:
IMPACT OF FLOW CYTOMETRY IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF PID IN HOSPITAL ABCD. A 5-YEAR EXPERIENCE.

RIGHT:
Impact of Flow Cytometry in the diagnosis of PID. A 5-year experience

Body of the abstract
Abstracts in all categories and without exception should be structured as follows:

Introduction:  Indicate the purpose and objective of the research, the hypothesis that was tested and a description of the problem being analyzed or evaluated.
Methods: Describe the setting/location for the study, study design, study population, ethical considerations, data collection and methods of analysis used.
Results: Present as clearly and detailed as possible the findings/outcome of the study, with specific results in summarized form.
Conclusion(s): Briefly discuss the data and main outcome, treatment, care and/or support, and implications of the results.

It is allowed the inclusion of one table or figure, as well as reference to finnancial support and grants.

Abstract submission

Oral presentation

Those abstracts selected for oral presentation will have a maximum time of 12 minutes for presentation and 5 for discussion.

Awards

From all oral presentations, one will be selected for the Best Oral Presentation Award SIC 2019.

Posters will also be evaluated by the delegates on-site during the poster-walk session (May 10th, 2019), and one of them will be selected for the Best Poster Presentation Award SIC 2019.

All abstracts in which the first author and presenter are students (PhD, Master or BSc students) or internal residents will be evaluated separately and one will be selected for the Best Junior Presentation Award SIC 2018. A document proving the student status must be presented when doing the abstract submission to ensure qualification for this award.

The winners will be announced at the Closing Dinner, on Friday, 10th May.  All winners will be further awarded with a free registration for the 2021 SIC Congress.

CLINICAL CASES FOR ORAL PRESENTATION

Clinical cases for oral presentation at the symposia Immunology 2 and Hematology 2

IT IS MANDATORY TO CHOOSE THE THEMATIC GROUP: CLINICAL CASE

  1. Wording should be clear, simple and concrete.
  2. The summaries of the cases should be written in English, but they can be presented in any of the three languages ​​of the Congress (English, Spanish or Portuguese).
  3. A maximum of 3500 characters are allowed, including spaces, preferably in the following order: Introduction, clinical case presentation, immunophenotypic strategy and results, differential diagnoses, definitive diagnosis and (ideally) treatment and evolution, followed by discussion (current revision of the topic) and bibliography.
  4. Additionally, the inclusion of a figure representing the immunophenotype of the case will be appreciated.
  5. Any data that may allow the identification of the patient (even codes) should be omitted.
  6. In the event that two clinical cases with the same title are received, sent by the same user, only the last received version will be evaluated and the first will be eliminated.
  7. Those cases selected for oral presentation will have a maximum time of 7 minutes for presentation and 2 for discussion.
